Grid Sample: Year in Review

Questions about Grid (for photo grids): Do you recommend using a Featured Image for these, or would it be better to Add Media to the text space? Caption the Featured Image or add text to the text space?

Explain photo here. I'm assuming the formatting (larger letters, color, etc.) is something we can switch and edit? I noticed this was not included on one of the examples (all text was formatted the same).
